The Destination - Kenya

Kenya is located on the eastern side of Africa, surrounded by Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Indian Ocean.   Nairobi, the capital, is in the south central section of the country.  The western half of the country seems to be plains, the eastern half is mountainous.  Our team will be flying into Nairobi, then taking a one hour flight from there to Eldoret, even further west.  Someone from the Kipkaren compound will drive us one hour to Kipkaren.  Eldoret is about 7,000 feet in elevation.  Kipkaren is just a bit lower, and about 40 miles from the equator.  The area around Kipkaren provides conditions suited to grow corn.  To the south  Kenyan’s raise most of their tea.

The Kenya Team will live in the village of Kipkaren for about two weeks.  We don’t know if the facilities will be dorms or huts, but ELI does provide cooks for the teams.  The ministries there involve two orphanages, a school, a clinic, and several outreach programs for alcoholics and prostitutes.
