God Made the Flowers

Do you know what polka-dotted ladybugs, squishy mud, and the face on the moon all have in common? How about wiggly puppies, wiggly worms, and wiggly toes? (Besides the wiggles.) Lots of our little preschoolers know. God. God created all of them. It is the most foundational truth we can teach our little ones. God made everything. The rain that wets our faces and the thunder that sometimes growls in the sky. The mountains that reach to the heavens. The stars that shine in the nighttime sky and the ones that try to hide behind the clouds. Chubby little babies and grandma’s and grandpa’s. The joy of teaching our little ones comes in knowing they will never walk away from the truth of the Creator-God. As they get a little older, we explain that the creations of man are still the creations of God. No man ever created a musical score or imitated the flight of the birds with "manmade" aircraft apart from the creative genius of God. From telephone lines to cyberspace, apart from the intelligence and analytical thought bequeathed to man by the Creator-God, we would still be sending smoke signals. The mammoth edifices of learning or finance were built with the raw materials produced by the Creator-God. Medical science may attempt to scoff at the divine origin of life when it manipulates the DNA that was configured by the awesome, limitless mind of the Creator. The scientist who does attempt to scoff, fails. Why are the truths of creation so foundational for the preschooler? Creation shouts even when man is silent. The psalmist calls on the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything that moves within the sea, to give praise to God. And they do. Witness the miracle of birth. Study the life cycles and the habits of the animal kingdom. Let the ocean waves splash about your feet as you ponder the secrets of the ocean depths. Creative genius – God. Better yet, walk with a preschooler and pick the flowers. Let the little tickling worm crawl around your fingers. Share bear hugs and butterfly kisses with your small preschooler, the one on whom the Creator bestows His greatest care. And maybe, instead of a shout, you’ll hear the quiet whisper, " I am Creator. I am God. Be confident in My presence. Know the absolute certainty that I am real."
