  The Fool

The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." And the dark emptiness of his abyss is void of purpose, of love, of morality, of hope, of satisfaction. His foolishness has carved itself into his heart, not merely spoken transient thought aloud. The only echo, haunting and distant, is his own voice, proud with its arrogance, dissonant with its failure, disabling with no semblance of stability. His life of tragedy and unanswered questions, of success marred by futility, of pursuit without attaining, of random searching and grasping, finds no reason and no purpose. He has been both victim and perpetrator, the overpowering and the powerless – and why? There is no sense, no future, no commonality. His moments scream their nothingness and hollow out his soul.

True love is an unlikely possibility. The substitutes for love are cruel and unbending, manipulating and coercive. Unable to give, he is unable to receive. His guarded walls protect and they isolate. That which most satisfies the human soul taunts from an unreachable crevice within his chasm. Motive and action, words and attitudes, are guided only by the momentary value of a self-imposed standard. The resulting chaos is matched only by the chaos of his fellow fools, and yet even in that, each is driven by his own want and held prisoner by his own desire. The darkness is blackened and the gauntness of his soul begs for relief, but there is none. What is today will be tomorrow, and its senselessness drones on. Is there no possibility for change? Is there no light to part the darkness and offer a way out? Discomfort falls to discontent and discontent falls to despair. The parched dryness craves for satisfaction, and none is found.

The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." God of purpose. God of love. God of rightness. God of hope. God who fully satisfies. The fool misses it all. Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He has loved me with an everlasting love. He chose me that I would be holy and blameless before Him. He causes all things to work together for good, for me and for all those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. His plan wants to impart to me a future and a hope. He satisfies more than the richest feast and fills me with songs of joy.
